SAMPLE ENCLOSURE

Why a small cage? When beginning with a baby chameleon, you will need to provide 2 cages over his or her lifetime. The first cage is for rearing your little one, the second is a permanent, adult sized enclosure. When placed in an adult sized cage, a baby chameleon often finds it difficult, if not impossible, to find small prey as well as other important resources such as heat and water. It's very important to provide an enclosure that's relevant to your chameleon's current size, especially when beginning with a little one.
Our rearing cage (24"L x 12"W x 24"H) is designed to take your chameleon all the way to young adulthood and later be used as a portable outdoor sunning cage, or travel cage (when you're away on vacation). Our enclosure design is rectangular rather than square, providing your chameleon much more space at the top for lateral movement. At 9-12 months of age, your young adult chameleon can graduate to his or her full sized cage.
Cage size recommendations for adult Panthers: Males - 30"L x 18"W x 36"H and Females - 24"L x 16"W x 30"H.
Cage Specification
- High quality, dark gray aluminum framing
- External plastic frame corners for added rigidity and strength
- Stainless steel hinges
- Black, fine mesh aluminum screening
- Screening on all 4 sides and top providing for easy viewing of your chameleon and excellent ventilation
- Enclosure bottoms made with 1/8" green PVC foam which is lightweight, durable, water-resistant and attractive
- Large hinged door with full access as well as a swiveling face panel below the door for optimum ease in cleaning. Simply unlatch the panel at the bottom and move to the upright position. Any debris inside can be easily swept away from the cage bottom without opening the hinged door above. This bottom panel feature is also great for feeding flying insects.
- Assembles in minutes with a simple screw driver. All parts included.
For the cage interior, be sure to use safe, live plants (we highly recommend Ficus benjamina "Weeping Fig") and 4 or 5 natural branches for your chameleon to climb around on. Plants and branches should be cleaned in advance as described in the care sheet we provide. We use NO substrate on the cage bottom since chameleons are arboreal and the plants becomes your chameleon's "home." Clean, dry cage bottoms are easy to maintain and provide a sanitary environment for your pet.
LIGHTING

Your setup includes two forms of lighting. One provides for artificial UVA/UVB and the other is for heat and basking. For UVA/UVB exposure, we use a ReptiSun's 5.0 fluorescent lamp which fits inside a custom sized fluorescent fixture. The fixture is placed on top of the screened cage and runs the length of the enclosure, providing light throughout the environment. In one corner, we place a 5.5" Clamp Lamp fixture which contains a Zoo Med 75-wt. Basking Spot Lamp with beautiful bluish colored lighting. This provides the necessary heat your chameleon requires for proper thermoregulation.
